The Weekly Grind takes place every Friday morning at the church (32 Kaurilands Rd) from 10-12am. It’s a great opportunity for parents of young ones to get together, enjoy a good coffee and some delicious home baking in a child-friendly environment. We put out play equipment for the children and on alternate weeks do a small craft with them. This keeps them entertained while their parents relax and chat, perhaps with coffee from our espresso machine.
While we aim to cater to parents with young children, others are very welcome too!
The morning operates on a roster system so we rely on volunteers to make it happen and welcome any help offered. We have a range of people helping, from those who come with their children, to church mums whose children are now at school, and even grandparents! Being involved is a great way to get to know some other mums in our community, church-going and not, who you may not otherwise meet.
For me personally, the Weekly Grind was a fantastic way to meet some mums in my local community as I was new to the area, new to motherhood and new to the church. I felt welcomed and it soon became my regular Friday morning activity. It wasn’t long till I wanted to get involved so I could contribute something to this informal, friendly “café”.
And now, two years later I’m on the team running the Weekly Grind! Our goal is to provide a welcoming environment, particularly for mums and caregivers in our community to come and meet some new people and hopefully make some new friends for themselves and their children.
